After being saved many years, I see God’s hand on my life even before I became a Christian.

Before I was 10 years old, I lived in a factory  that my father owned. I remember there was no peace in my family. My parents always had quarrels, sometimes so bad that they ended in physical abuse. In the factory, there was also an idol that my whole family worshipped.

During this time, I also committed sins and I was afraid of the punishment I deserved for them after death. I often had terrible dreams that made me afraid of eternity. Looking back, I can see how God put the concept of eternal judgement in my heart, even when I didn’t have the opportunity to learn from the Bible or study at a Christian school. Sadly, as a child I committed so many sins that I couldn’t hear the voice of my conscience anymore.

After I was 10 years old, I started to attend a Roman Catholic high school. Because of a lot of unhappy experiences at this school, I thought I was being cursed and I found myself looking for a “higher power” to save me. Sometimes at school, a box would be passed around, giving students an opportunity to donate money and to help the poor. The only reason I donated was because I thought I could gain merit from the “higher power,” even though at the time I was unsure who this “higher power” even was.

I met the Lord at the end of 1991. I was in an inter‐denominational Christian winter conference in Canada. I wanted to leave the camp, but because I didn’t have a car, I stayed.

At the conference, an old lady witnessed to me. She told me how she became saved and she shared how when she first accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, joy bubbled from her heart. She was so sincere that I believed her testimony was true.

During one night of the conference, the pastor invited the unbelievers to become Christians. There was an internal struggle within me, but with the encouragement of my Christian friend, I went forward. I walked to the front of the pulpit and the pastor prayed for all of the unbelievers who came forth.

The fact is that, at that time, I wasn’t really believing. My action of walking to the front of the church didn’t match my heart. When the follow-up lady asked me to write down my name and address, I did it reluctantly because I thought that I was signing a contract to sell my soul. When she invited me to pray the prayer of accepting the Lord Jesus as the Master of my life, I simply repeated the words after her, without actually believing the truths in my heart.

That night was really hard when I returned to my room. I remember crying as I saw numerous visions streaming into my mind, telling me that I would be severely persecuted because I became the first Christian in my family.

The next day, another Christian approached me. We chatted and I told him how I accepted the pastor’s calling and went forward before the pastor. After the chat, I realized that I now believed the truths I had prayed last night. I consciously admitted in my heart that I wanted to follow the Lord Jesus Christ.

After I opened my heart to God, He forgave my sins. I was extremely happy when I saw in my spirit that I was forgiven. That night when the pastor preached, there was something different inside of me. The Scripture pounded my heart so mightily and God confirmed to me again that I had made the right choice to accept the Lord Jesus as my Savior.

In chapter 4 of John’s Gospel, Jesus met a Samaritan woman and proved to her He was the Christ. He knew that she had five men in her life and that none of them were her husband. The woman believed Jesus was Christ and she was saved, and then she shared the truth with others.

Jesus knows everything, even our hidden thoughts. Just as He knew my sins and the Samaritan woman’s sins, He sees your sins too. And just as I shared how Jesus found me and rescued me from my sin, He is willing to save you too.

Jesus died on the cross to pay the punishment for our sins, so we can be reunited with the Lord. Jesus said:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” - John 14:6

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” - Romans 6:23

Just as I learned as a child, I can do nothing to earn His merit or favor. I am saved by His grace, not by my works.

If you want to become a Christian, do consider that you may face persecutions. However, you should know that you will enjoy tremendous glory and joy when the Lord Jesus comes back to the earth to receive His own people. Just like what the prophet Daniel prophesied long before the Lord Jesus was crucified:

“And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” - Daniel 12:2‐3

Open your heart now to the Lord Jesus Christ, and call out to Him to save you. Put your trust in Him, and He will come into your heart.
