Homecoming is where past and present are united to enjoy a time of reunion and celebration. Did you know that the Bible talks about a unique homecoming? This homecoming will be like no other before it. It will be a time of unbridled joy, plenty of feasting, never-ending peace, an innumerable crowd and this homecoming will continue forever! At this homecoming, the Lord Jesus Christ will come back and bring all those that are His to be with Him.
The Invitation
Here is some good news! You don’t need to be a member of any institution or alumni to be invited. The invitation is open to all. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Jesus is inviting everyone to come to Him, and that includes you! This also means that we don’t have to do anything. No years of studying or earning a title, no good deeds to impress the faculty. The Bible says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Jesus doesn’t want you to impress Him. This invitation is a gift!
Why The Invitation?
Can we just show up? Good question! At this homecoming, there is something that isn’t invited and is not allowed in-sin. You may ask, do I have sin? The answer is yes. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). In other words, we have all come short of the end zone. We have all dropped a pass (lied), fumbled the ball (stolen), caused an interception (had bad thoughts), missed a field goal (meant ill to our fellow man), and therefore have not reached the end zone that God intended for us. All have sinned and our sins separate us from God and are keeping us out of this future homecoming.
No Homecoming For Me?
Jesus wouldn’t offer you an invitation unless there is a way for you to come. The good news is that your sin has been taken care of. Jesus “died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again on the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:3,4). Jesus laid down His life so that you can reach the end zone.
Are You Coming?
Just believe the message about Jesus, “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). That is it, believe in Jesus and you will be at the best homecoming ever!
