Happy Hannukah!

“Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—
you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way”
(1 Kings 8:23).

A long time ago, God’s people were very sad. Some unkind rulers came and took over their land. They even went into God’s temple and made it dirty. The people could not worship the God of Israel the way they used to. But God didn’t forget about them. He helped a small group of brave people called the Maccabees fight back. With God’s help, they won!

When they went back into the temple, they cleaned everything and wanted to light the big lamp for God. But oh no! There was only one small jar of oil—just enough for one day. It would take eight days to make more. Still, they lit the lamp and trusted God.

Guess what happened? The oil didn’t run out! It stayed burning for eight whole days! That was a miracle! God made the oil last until they had more. The people were so happy. They praised God and celebrated what He had done. That’s why we celebrate Hanukkah—to remember how God showed His power and love…

“While we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).

But that’s not the end of the story. The same God who made the oil last is the God who gave us Jesus.

He is called Jehovah-Jireh—the God who provides. Jesus is the greatest light of all. He came to shine in the darkness and save us from sin. So when we see the Hanukkah lights, we can remember both the miracle of the oil and the miracle of Jesus, the Light of the World!

Merry Christmas!
