How many of these do you know?

The first U.S. drive-in filling station opened in 1913.

Until 2017, no one was allowed to pump their own fuel in Oregon.

KFC actually started out as a gas station.

Stations usually make their profits on items sold inside the store, not on fuel.

Most stations are independently owned local businesses, not run by big oil companies.

Outside of North America, gasoline is called “petrol.”

A typical station stores tens of thousands of gallons of fuel in its underground tanks.

Over 75% of people who go inside to use the restroom also end up making an impulse purchase.

On an average day, nearly forty million Americans stop for gas. Today, you happen to be one of them! I have no idea what your immediate destination is—you might be going to work, heading home, traveling on vacation, making your way to a friend’s house, or even driving to church! Be safe on the road, wherever you’re heading.

I also have no idea what your eternal destination is. The Bible tells us that “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). Do you have 100% confidence that when you are “absent from the body” you will be “present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8)? There are only two possibilities—an eternity with God in Heaven, or one apart from Him in a place known as “the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15). The good news is that the Bible tells us we can “know that [we] have eternal life” and that our home is Heaven. (1 John 5:13)

All of us have done wrong; no one is perfect. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Because of our sins, things are not right between us and God. “Your iniquities have separated between you and your God” (Isaiah 59:2). The Bible tells us, “all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). And no matter what good deeds we do, it is not enough—the Scripture says salvation is “not by works of righteousness which we have done” (Titus 3:5). Salvation is by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His work on the cross. (Ephesians 2:8; Romans 3:24-25)

The Bible tells us that Christ, the Son of God, “died for our sins … was buried … and … rose again the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Now He is in Heaven, ready and willing to forgive anyone and bring them into God’s family if they will acknowledge their sin, give up their own efforts, and trust Him as their Savior. Romans tells us, “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:9, 13). I hope you will call on Him today!
