The Lord is the “God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). Only He can truly encourage the heart that is burdened and distressed. Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled” (John 14:1). Whatever you are going through now, you can trust in a great God who can bring comfort and meet your every need.
Avail yourself of the comfort that comes from God’s Word, the Holy Bible:
When you need help:
“The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear” (Hebrews 13:6). “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10). “My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped” (Psalm 28:7).
When you are fearful:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1) “What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee” (Psalm 56:3).
When you need God’s strength:
“I will go in the strength of the Lord God” (Psalm 71:16). “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
When you are worried:
“Casting all your care [anxiety] upon Him; for He careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
When you feel lonely:
“For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5). “And the Lord, He it is that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8). “I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me” (Psalm 23:4).
When you lack wisdom:
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5).
When you face severe trials and trouble:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him” (Nahum 1:7).
When you lack assurance of salvation:
Take the Lord Jesus at His Word when He says, “He that heareth My Word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).
When burdened by life’s problems and challenges:
“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Dear Friend,
None of these promises will become real to you until you put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and claim Him as your personal Savior. It is so important to have a right and real relationship with Him. If you have never received Christ as your Savior from sin, consider God’s way of salvation from the Bible:
Recognize your sinful condition before a Holy God: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not” (Ecclesiastes 7:20).
Realize that because of your sins, you deserve death (separation from God): “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). “The soul that sinneth, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18:4). “Who [those who reject Christ] shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power” (2 Thessalonians 1:9).
Remember what Christ has done for you in paying the full penalty for your sins and taking your punishment by dying on the cross as your Substitute: He “bare our sins in His own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24). “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18). “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures … was buried, and … rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
Receive Christ as your personal Savior: “What must I do to be saved? ... Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:30-31). “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12). “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
Consider John 3:16 which has been called “the gospel in a nutshell.” Put your own name in this verse and read aloud:
“For God so loved (your name _________________________________ ) that He gave His only begotten Son for _____________________________ , that if _____________________________ believes in Him, _________________________________ should not perish, but _________________________________ (will) have everlasting life.”
