First, let me say that it was my pleasure—in fact, I was absolutely delighted to do it! Here’s why...

First, I paid because I wanted to show you love and kindness. I want you to have some extra sunshine in your day! The Bible says, “As we have … opportunity, let us do good unto all men,” and “To do good and to … forget not” (Galatians 6:10; Hebrews 13:16). It is my pleasure and delight to obey the Bible by spreading love, joy, and kindness whenever I can. I hope my gift to you makes your day just a little better!

Second, I paid to show you that God cares about you. I told God some time ago that whenever He put it on my heart, I would use the blessings He’s given me to show kindness to someone of His choosing. Whether it meant buying their groceries, filling their fuel tank, purchasing their dinner, paying a bill, providing a gift card, or just gifting them a cup of coffee—I would be glad to show His love to anyone that He chose.

Today, He decided that it would be you. If God didn’t care about you, He wouldn’t have led me to do this for you. I want you to know that my gift to you today is not just evidence that I care—but that God Himself cares!

The Bible, of course, tells us that God does care for every person. It says, “The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works,” and “Your Father which is in heaven… maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust” (Psalm 145:9; Matthew 5:45).

1 Timothy 6:17 says that “the living God … giveth us richly all things to enjoy,” and John 3:16 reminds us that “God so loved the world.”

I hope my gift today reminds you that there is a loving God who cares about you.

The third and final reason was to tell you about a kindness, a gift, and a demonstration of love far greater than my own towards you today. It’s one thing to give some money and cover a small portion of someone’s immediate needs. It’s another to give your very life—and meet the eternal needs of a person. That’s what Jesus Christ did for each one of us.

The Bible says, “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). In 1 John 4:9-10, the Bible tells us, “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation [total payment] for our sins.”

You see, all of us are sinners. Each of us has done wrong. The Bible says, “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,” and “There is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not” (Romans 3:23; Ecclesiastes 7:20). As a result, things are not right between us and God and no matter how many good things we try to do, none of us can ever be worthy of Heaven on our own. “By … works … shall no flesh be justified” (Galatians 2:16). Instead, the wages of our sin “is death” (Romans 6:23). But the Bible tells us some good news: “Christ died for our sins” (1 Corinthians 15:3).

And just as I was glad to do this today, Jesus was glad to do what He did for you. He said that He came to our world, “not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28).

In fact, the Bible says He was delighted to do it (Psalm 40:7-8)! On Calvary’s cross, He gave His very life to meet our eternal needs. Three days later, just as we celebrate on Easter, He rose from the dead—proving once and for all that He is God and has the power to save us.

Yes, Jesus Christ—whose birth we celebrate at Christmas each year—was God Himself, come in human flesh to this earth to personally pay the price for our sins and make it possible for us to be forgiven and live eternally one day with Him in Heaven when this life is over. Consider this verse from the Bible—it tells the whole true, wonderful story:

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened [resurrected from the dead] by the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18).

I paid today so that I could share this wonderful message with you about the greatest gift and love ever!

I’m not sure if you’ve previously heard this message or if perhaps you’ve already trusted Jesus to be your Savior—but if not, let me invite you to place your total dependence on the work of the crucified and risen Lord Jesus to secure your eternity and forever make things right between you and God. He would be delighted to save you today!

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Romans 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-9).
