"Who me? What did I do?"

Much has been said and written recently about the potential devastation from the year 2000 computer problem (Y2K), also known as the ... millennium bug!

Basically the problem stems from a memory saving decision made by computer programmers over 30 years ago.

"Let's call '1969' '69' to save some memory space."

"Groovy, man!"

"I'll just hide in here."

Today we realize that when the year 2000 hits, many computers won't be able to determine wheter the date is 2000 or 1900.

"Far out, man. Look at it fry!"

"Oh, why didn't we fix this years ago?"

"I'm outta here!"

The problem is, this little millennium bug has to be fixed on tens of millions of computers. It may even exist on countless embedded computer chips in everything from microwave ovens to space satellites.

"My sandwich!"

"What a view!"

As a result, nobody really knows what will happen when the year 2000 hits!

Will there be a total collapse of our culture as we know it today?

"Honey, the electricity, water, and gas don't work, and there's no food."

"Who cares! The TV is out!"

... Or will it result in a few minor glitches?

"34 million dollar phone bill? Who have you been calling?"

"But daddy!"

"It was me, pops!"

Some think that the worst devastation will come from the panic that something "might" happen.

"I want my money!"

"Get some for me while you're at it."

Opportunists seem to be popping up everywhere ready to cash in.

"Yes, it's going to be awful, but with my 'Y2K Survival Kit' you can be well stocked with Twinkies for the next 50 years."

As a result, some people are skeptical while others are in a panic.

"Ahhhh!"

"Ahhhh!"

"Ahhhh?"

Confusion reigns and no one is certain as to what to do.

"Hey look!"

"Huh?"

"Huh?"

"The Bible says..."

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5,6

"Even a millennium bug like me can see that when the chips are down (no pun intended), it's time to turn to the Lord."

"When I am afraid, I will trust in you." Psalm 56:3

You see, God cares for each of us whether we are in a crisis or not, and wants to have a personal relationship with us for all eternity.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

"Apparently the problem is, our sins stand in the way of that relationship."

"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23

"That sounds like a bigger problem than Y2K."

"It sure is. But it says here that God's son, Jesus, came and died for our sins so we might be forgiven and have a loving relationship with Him for all eternity.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

"Lord Jesus, we place our total trust in You. Thank You for saving us for all eternity."

"Eternity is well past the year 2000, by the way."
