What is the T.R.U.T.H. and how can we find it?
The truth about the purpose of this life and our next life after we die has to be discovered, not invented. Why? If it is invented by a limited-in-knowledge and imperfect human, then the “truth” will also be imperfect. You didn’t create you. So, you don’t know why you exist. Why would anyone trust their eternal future to someone or something so limited in knowledge and power? Why look for answers from an artificial intelligence (AI), when you can look to a real AI—The Almighty Intelligence?
Does one exist? To find out, let’s take few minutes and go on a brief archeologically theological dig. Your life and eternal life depends on it. Let’s search together for the answers to the most important questions in life: Where did we come from? Is there a Creator God? If so, what is He like and why did He create us? Where are we going after we die? Does He expect us to believe or do something to guarantee our eternal life in heaven with Him? Can we decide later after we die? Must we decide now?
Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living for a human being. Furthermore, living with the eternal pain of regret is worse than the pain of discipline to take a few minutes and examine the truth that has been sent to us!
Let’s start by digging in the Bible (the bestselling book every year and of all time) and examine the claim of Jesus when He said, “I am the way, and the TRUTH, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). Jesus didn’t say that He spoke the truth (although He did), but that He was the truth. To Him truth was a person—Himself. This is what makes Christianity different than all other religions. The Bible says, 1) Truth is primarily found in a relationship with God through Jesus (John 17:3; Romans 10:9), 2) Jesus is the only way to God as our Father for us to live forever with Him (John 3:16) and 3) You must believe and receive Him to become His child (John 1:12).
So how do we know that Jesus really is the only way to God? What are the facts that point us down this path as compared to other trails (religions/philosophies) that lead up the same mountain to God as the final and only real judge for the purpose of human existence and its destiny? What makes Jesus different than other “leaders” that claim to have the truth? Well, the only way we can know what Heaven is like or the next life is like, if there is one, is to ask the person who has been there. If you want to know what my parents are like and the place I grew up, I can tell you and you would believe me.
Jesus is the only one in history that has claimed to have been from Heaven and with the God when He created the world (Colossians 1:16). Jesus says, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me” (John 6:38). All other religions are building a ladder of truth or philosophy by their own knowledge to determine the purpose of this life and the next and then by their own works trying to get there. Christianity is the only one that examines a God who climbed “down the ladder” from heaven to be with us and show us the way back up.
Here are five proofs for your consideration that point to Jesus as the TRUTH and only way to God. Let’s continue our theological dig for the truth by examining the evidence from the Bible and outside of it. Does it really contain enough evidence to find or determine the T.R.U.T.H.?
The conscience of us humans—a universal sense of right and wrong. The Bible says “For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them” (Romans 2:14,15). Even though cultures are so different in their languages and traditions, there is some basic universal morality that is common to all. Why? Because of a common Creator. Can all this happen by chance? Really? If so, how does ethics come from something impersonal?
Revelation—God tells us about Himself through His amazing creation. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). Every design has a designer. How can intelligence come from non-intelligence? Just examine the human body for example. Consider DNA where all the data is contained for our design (about 25,000 proteins in only 4 letters, 1.5 gigabytes of data or 3 billion bits). It would take a person typing 60 words per minute, eight hours a day, around 50 years to type the human genome. If all three billion letters in the human genome were stacked one millimeter apart, they would reach a height 7,000 times the height of the Empire State Building. Really? All this by accident? Come on, let’s be real. Moreover, why does something have to exist as opposed to not exist? How can intelligence come from non-intelligence? A design without a designer?
Understanding the true nature of God in Christ as seen and foretold in the Bible (Hebrews 1:2). The birth and life of our Lord Jesus Christ fulfils over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament about the coming of the Messiah, such as where He was born and how He was going to die. The odds of only eight of the major prophecies being fulfilled by just one single person is 1 in 10 to the 17th power, or 100,000,000,000,000,000 and 48 prophecies to be 1 in 10 to the 157th power. The estimated number of electrons in the universe is around 1 X 10 to the 79th power. [Peter Stoner, Science Speaks, Chicago: Moody Press, (1969)] Jesus is Lord! God went to a lot of “trouble” over a long period of time to prove that Jesus is the one! He respects our intellectual integrity and logic when making prudent decisions. God went to great extremes to prove that Jesus was His answer to eternal life with Him as your good Father. Please take time to research all these prophecies! I believe it is one of the greatest evidences available.
The Bible—It has more ancient manuscripts than any other ancient document in history (Caesar-251, Plato-210, Aristotle-49, The Bible-66,362!). If we believe that Caesar was a real guy, than why wouldn’t we believe that Jesus was based on many more books available? The Bible is older and more reliable than any other ancient text. The first book of the Bible was written 3500 years ago, while the last one was completed nearly 2000 years ago. It has survived through time in spite of many efforts to destroy it.
The Bible is the world’s best-selling book of all time and the best-selling book of the year, every year! Fifty Bibles are sold every minute. It’s never shown on the best-seller lists because it dwarfs the sales of all other books. I’ve read the Bible through over 40 times and have concluded that it can’t be a book written by ordinary human beings without divine intervention—the revealed mind and heart of God. Read the Bible for yourself (Genesis, John, and Philippians to start) and see if you agree.
If you do, however, be ready for this, as you read the Bible the Bible reads you and will help you overcome depression, anxiety, and fear. It tells you what to do and gives you the power to do it—now that’s real freedom. It’s the only book in the world where the author is with you when you read it! Seriously. Check it out.
History—What does history say about the Bible? No archaeological discovery has ever contradicted a single biblical reference (25,000 archeological sites and 10,000 artifacts). Flavius Josephus (A.D. 37 – c. 100) was a Jewish historian born in Jerusalem four years after the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. Josephus is the most comprehensive primary source on Jewish history that has survived from antiquity and done so virtually intact despite its voluminous nature (the equivalent of 12 volumes). He says, “Around this time lived Jesus, a wise man. For he was a worker of amazing deeds and was a teacher of people who accept the truth with pleasure. He won over both many Jews and many Greeks. Pilate, when he heard him accused by the leading men among us, condemned him to the cross, [but] those who had first loved him did not cease [doing so]. To this day the tribe of Christians named after him has not disappeared.”
So, we end our search for truth for now. I hope you enjoyed this discovery! Thanks for taking the time! You can see the overwhelming evidence that the Bible is an amazing book that shows us the truth about God and humankind. Yes, it is by faith that we believe; but it is not a blind faith. It’s a faith that is based on sound reasoning supported by facts. We may not see the wind, but we see the effects of it.
We are going to be “dead” a lot longer than we are alive on this earth. So, isn’t it worth considering these facts? The Bible says that it is appointed once to die and then comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27). We get one chance to decide—this life only. Eternity is a long time to be wrong. As mentioned earlier, the eternal pain of regret and suffering in hell (Revelation 20:15) will be a lot worse than the painful discipline and use of time to seek the TRUTH now that leads you to heaven. Everyone is going to live somewhere forever. Do you know where you will be living?
Will you receive Christ as Lord of your life? “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Call on Him now before it’s too late. Jesus said, “You will know the TRUTH, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32). Free forever. “If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). What are you waiting for? Jesus said, “Seek, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7-8). Pray to God now and secure your eternal destiny forever with Him.
Love in Christ,
