The Great Escape
“Excuse me, could I have my shorts back please?”
Harry Houdini was perhaps the greatest escape artist that ever lived.
However there was one place he was never able to escape from.
While a few of us have any delusions of escaping the inevitability of death…
“Statistics show that roughly 100 out of 100 people will at some point in their life experience death.”
...Many live their daily lives trying to escape the thought of it.
“I’m sorry. Did you say something?”
Some escape by working too much…
Others by playing too much.
Many young people escape by thinking…
“I’m too young to die!”
And many old people simply think…
“I’m not really that old!”
Some people escape the thought of death thru destructive habits.
Others try to escape death’s inevitability thru healthy habits.
Some escape thru their preoccupation with their own immoral behavior.
Some escape thru their preoccupation with other’s immoral behavior.
But no matter what your escape, some day you are going to have to face the fact, yes, you are going to die!
“But what good does it to think about it?”
The Bible says…
“...Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement.” (Hebrews 9:27)
Are you ready for judgement?
“Well, no, but who is?”
The Bible also says…
“For Christ died for sins...the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18)
“Hmmm! Christ died for me?”
You see, Christ paid the penalty for our sins and rose from the grave so we can freely come before God with a clean slate and have eternal life with Him.
“Hmmm! I can come freely to God?”
“In Him and through faith in Him(Jesus) we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” (Ephesians 3:12)
By admitting your sin and trusting Christ as your savior, you too will conquer death and live with God for eternity.
“Whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; He has crossed over from death to life.” (John 5:24)
“Lord Jesus, I place my trust in you to be my savior. Thank you for conquering death and giving me eternal life, amen.”
