There are certain facts which we would like you to know. We call them facts because they are things which God has plainly said in His revelation to man, the Holy Bible.
Three Important Facts
First Fact: God created mankind. God is a spirit and He created man in His image. God gave man a spirit and a soul and a body. The soul of man contains the mind, will and emotions. Man has the ability to choose his own way.
Second Fact: Creation is subject to the Creator. Man is accountable to God. Man has the ability, through the exercise of his will, to obey God or disobey Him. But whichever he does, he is accountable to God for his actions.
Third Fact: We are all sinners by nature. The first man, Adam, from whom we’ve all descended, chose to disobey God. God had clearly given Adam a mandate and stated the consequence for disobedience. With knowledge of this, man disobeyed and sin entered the human race. All people have a common heritage; we are sinners by nature.
Mankind’s Greatest Need
We are also sinners by practice: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). How do we know what sin is? God has given us His law, which we find recorded in the Bible. This law is God’s standard; it shows what He expects of mankind. The Ten Commandments are an example of God’s law, but there are many others besides these. Anyone who breaks even one of His laws is considered by God to be a lawbreaker and deserving of His judgment.
What is the consequence of sin? “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Death in this case is spiritual. It entails total separation from God. This state of spiritual death is the condition in which man is born into the world.
If one rejects God’s way of salvation through Jesus Christ, then this death will continue until its culmination in Hell, which is a place of eternal torment and separation from God.
The Good News
Is there any hope for mankind? Fortunately there is. It is not a solution which comes from within man, but is a solution which God has provided. This solution we call the gospel. The word gospel simply means “good news.” The facts of the gospel are these:
First: Jesus Christ died for our sins.
Second: He was buried and remained in the grave for three days.
Third: He rose from the dead.
The Bible shows us the tremendous love of God in that He provided a way of escape for all of mankind. That way of escape is Jesus Christ.
Jesus is a unique man in that he is the Son of God and the son of man. He is deity as well as humanity. As a man, he lived a life that was without sin; qualifying himself to be the perfect sacrifice for sin. The penalty for all sin was placed upon Jesus. When Jesus died upon the cross, He took upon himself God’s punishment for our sins. God’s law was satisfied.
Jesus then rose from the dead, signifying that death has now been conquered, and proving that God was pleased with His sacrifice. Because He lives, we can live also. We are invited to receive Him into our lives, trusting His finished work on the cross as complete payment for our sins, and submitting to Him as God. Trust and submission are necessary for one to receive new life. The spirit of Christ will indwell all who have come to Him in the way that the Bible prescribes, and God will give to them eternal life.
Will You Believe the Good News?
Friend, the gospel truth is that you are a sinner and have need of a Lord and Savior; Jesus is the one and only Lord and Savior that God has provided. His message was: “Repent and believe the gospel.”
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
