This pamphlet is for the person who has lost hope, is discouraged by life, is unsure of his future, or simply needs some good news. Continue reading if you would like to find real, lasting peace and contentment. This good news is for anyone who is willing to hear it. You can find hope. You can find meaning and love in life. There is Someone who loves you more than any person ever could, Someone who will never betray you or hurt you. His name is Jesus, and He can give you hope, life and love—no matter who you are or what you’ve done. He can heal your hurt, take your burdens, and save you—all you have to do is trust Him.

In today’s world it is easy to be discouraged. Everywhere we look there is hurt, suffering, and death. You may wonder why a God who is so loving would allow this to be.

You see, when God created people, He gave them free will. This means that everyone has the ability to make their own decisions and decide what they choose to believe. If we did not have free will, we would be like puppets on a string, unable to love. You can’t force someone to truly love you—that is a personal decision. In the same way, God wants us to choose on our own whether to love Him or not. He wants us to decide to believe Him or reject Him. He originally gave Adam and Eve the choice to either obey the law He gave them, or to sin (Genesis 2:16-17). They were given this freedom so they would have the ability to choose as they wished.

Because God granted people free will, they are left to sin and make whatever choices they please. Through their sin and the resulting curse on the world (Genesis 3:16-19), terrible things happen today. Men and women kill, hate each other, fight constantly, and cause pain. There are diseases and sicknesses everywhere; natural disasters constantly bring destruction around the world. But God patiently allows the world to continue because He wants everyone to have an opportunity to be saved (2 Peter 3:9). If He chose to wipe all sin out now, He would wipe out all sinners as well, and those who don’t believe would die an eternal death in Hell (Romans 6:23).

Although it is discouraging to see sin in this world and to know that many will perish because they choose not to believe the Word, we have encouragement to look to. The Good News is that there is a rescue for us in this life. “The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:22-24). As you can see from these verses, while all people are sinners, there is still hope for anyone who believes in Christ. God offers grace and forgiveness to anyone who will believe (John 3:16-17). “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved” (Romans 10:9-10). If you want to find hope, if you want someone to take your burdens, your pain, and your discouragement, believe on Jesus Christ and He will save you. Believe that God sent His Son to this world for you (2 Corinthians 5:15; 1 John 2:2). Believe that Jesus lived a perfect life and then went on to die a terrible death to take our sin on Himself.

Salvation does not come through our good works (Ephesians 2:8-9) or anything we can do in our lives; it comes through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6). When we depend on Him (not ourselves) and believe the truth of God’s word alone, He will bring you true, lasting peace, contentment, and love. He will save you—simply believe in Him and accept His grace and forgiveness.
