How Good is Good Enough?

That was the title of pastor Andy Stanley’s book. It’s a good question. How good does someone have to be to make it into God’s heaven?

In Matthew 5:20, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, said, “Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.” (The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were people who lived by the law and followed it better than anyone at the time of Jesus.) Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 7:20, “Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins.”

All of humanity has sinned against God and deserves death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The gift of eternal life is not based on our goodness or efforts. Galatians 2:21 teaches us that if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

So receive the goodness of what Christ did to have eternal life in Heaven today!

He died for our sins, then He was buried, was raised the third day, and appeared to the twelve disciples. This is the message of the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:3-5).

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8,9).
