At times I stop and thank God for all my early mentors who planted and watered the word of God into my heart. Their teaching taught me the importance of studying the Bible and immediately applying what I learned.
I like to think of myself as a “Word Man.” Every day I spend time with God by reading a few chapters out of the Bible. This daily devotion to the word has taken me from spiritual-infancy to spiritual-maturity, and I am still growing. Honestly, the more I grow in the word, the Spirit continues to reveal even more—this encourages me to joyfully dig-deeper into the Word of God.
What Are “Red Words”?
“Red Words” is a nickname that many Christians use to reference actual quotes of Jesus Christ. You can find the mass-majority of these quotes in the first four books of the New Testament section of the Bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. In these books of the Bible we are allowed a close look into the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In addition, these books also allow us to observe the many different people that came in contact with Jesus and see how He changed the lives of all who believed and obeyed Him. #RedWordsChallenge
What is The Red Words Challenge?
The “Red Words Challenge” is a 40-day intentional daily devotion that I started years ago when I was teaching a discipleship class. I challenged my entire class to devote 40 days of studying and applying the “Red Words” of Jesus. If you are reading this tract, then today I also invite you to participate in the “Red Words Challenge,” and allow God to change you by His word. #RedWordsChallenge
One Pen and Two Chapters!
The first step of the “Red Words Challenge” is your personal commitment to a full 40 days of daily devotion to the word. That is done by studying two chapters each day, starting in the book of Matthew and ending on the 40th day in the last chapter of the book of John. This daily studying requires a pen and note-pad because you’re required to choose and write down a minimum of two verses each day. This practice of copying down scriptures each day will allow you the wonderful opportunity to reflect and grow in the word. In addition, this daily studying is important because the words of Jesus will start to paint a spiritual picture upon your heart. #RedWordsChallenge
Plug It In!
The term “Plug It In” is used in reference to a household air freshener product, that when it is plugged into an electrical outlet, it releases a refreshing smell. For the next 40 days I challenge you to plug yourself into the scriptures as you read. Read these chapters as if you were right there with Jesus as He spoke these words. For example, in the book of Matthew it talks about how an angel of the Lord came to Jesus’ stepfather in a dream to warn them to flee into Egypt (Matthew 2:13). When I read this particular scripture, I plugged myself into that dream, picturing that I am witnessing the angel speaking directly to Joseph. This is how I want you to plug yourself into the scriptures throughout this challenge.
This “Plug It In” practice will help build your faith and strengthen your belief in God. Plus, when you personalize the word, it will help you with scripture memorization. You will find joy in certain scriptures that will sit upon your heart, and they will start to become easily recalled. #RedWordsChallenge
8 = New Beginnings!
In reference to certain numbers, it has been said that they have Biblical meanings behind them. For example, the number 8 is said to be symbolic for New Beginnings. An example is found when God used 8 people to replenish the entire earth after the flood (Genesis 8:18).
In the “Red Words Challenge” you should have New Beginnings, so I want to start you with 8 powerful quotes of Jesus to plant them into your spirit. Please write down the following scriptures before your start the challenge.
1. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
2. “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” (Mark 13:31)
3. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
4. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
5. “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)
6. “Ye have heard that it hath been said; Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:43-44)
7. “And Jesus looking upon them said, with men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.” (Mark 10:27)
8. “But rather seek ye the Kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Luke 12:31)
These 8 scriptures are for you to reflect upon through the entire 40 days. These scriptures will encourage, uplift, and strengthen your faith. #RedWordsChallenge
Salvation & Strength
I understand that not everyone who participates in the “Red Words Challenge” is a born again Christian. If you have not surrendered your life to Christ, then I want to encourage you to dive-deep into this challenge. Please allow these 40 days of devotion to open your spiritual eyes of belief.
If at any time throughout the challenge you realize that you are a sinner who is in need of a Savior: believe that God sent Jesus as this Savior and repent for your sins. I want to encourage you to pray a sincere confession from your heart to God. And if you don’t know how to pray, many people pray something similar to this:
Dear Heavenly Father, I know that I have done a lot of bad things that I am not proud of. I know that I am a sinner, and I am asking for your forgiveness. I believe in you, and I believe that you sent Jesus. I believe that Jesus lived a sinless life, and that He died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins. I believe that you raised Jesus from the grave on the 3rd day. Thank you for saving my soul.
Amen
Respectfully,
Danny Dashay Holmes Sr
