The Sent One
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another…. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
—Galatians 4:4,5; 1 John 4:9-11,14
Who Willingly Came
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Now once in the end of the world [age] hath He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
—1 Timothy 1:15; Matthew 9:13; Luke 19:10; Hebrews 9:26
To Do The Father’s Will
Then said He, Lo, I come to do Thy will, O God.… By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent Me, that of all which He hath given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
—Hebrews 10:9,10; John 6:37-40
Do You Know Him?
And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
—John 17:3; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8; 1 John 5:20
The Father sent the Son,
A ruined world to save;
Man meted to the Sinless One,
The cross—the grave:
Blest Substitute from God!
Wrath’s awful cup He drained:
Laid down His life, and even the tomb’s
Reproach sustained.
—Hannah K. Burlingham
