The Ultimate Superhero
High in the offices of the world’s largest movie production studio, Executives are discussing the creation of their next blockbuster hit.
“What we need for this movie is a superhero unlike any that has been presented on screen before.”
“Of course we’ll need special effects.”
“Yes! Yes! Special effects would be great. And let’s give this guy superhuman powers unseen in any movie character before.”
“We could give him the ability to crush people with just his bare hands.”
“Not so fast. I was thinking we could create him to use his force for good, not evil.”
“Let’s make his superpowers give him the ability to heal people just by touching them.”
“That sounds cool. How about… some people could even be healed with his voice?”
“...Or even brought back from the dead?”
“Yeah! Way cool!”
“Wait! How about this? Let’s have this guy do battle with demonic forces that take over people’s bodies.”
“Oooo! Yeah! We could give him big muscles and a whole arsenal of special weapons!”
“No, I’ve got a better idea. Let’s go the other extreme. Let’s make him look as normal as possible, so everyone can relate to this guy.”
“Kind of an “everyman” character, eh? I like it.”
“Where shall we have him come from? A distant alien planet?”
“No, let’s say he was born here when a powerful being from a distant alien planet sent him on a mission to Earth.”
“Good idea… except let’s make this powerful being be bigger than something that just comes from a distant planet. How about if it rukes over a distant galaxy?”
“Or how about if this powerful being rules over the whole universe itself, and our superhero is destined to rule over the universe as well?”
“Ooo! Ooo! That’s great...There’s our plot. The authorities here on Earth don’t like it because they don’t want to give up their power.. So they try to kill him.”
“No, they do kill him…”
“Excuse me?”
“But because of the superpowers of the powerful being behind him, he rises from the dead…”
“...And after he shows everyone that he is alive, he rises up into the sky…”
“Pardon me, sir.”
“What is it? Can’t you see we’re having a meeting here.”
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation. I just thought you should know that the story you’re creating has already been written.”
“It has? Where? Who? When?”
“It’s all right here in this book.”
“The Bible? This story is in the Bible?”
“Everything you’ve said is true of Jesus.”
“Jesus is the ultimate superhero?”
“Why not? A hero is someone who saves lives. Jesus is the son of God who came to Earth to save all mankind from their sin so we can live with God for all eternity.”
“I like it!”
“If that isn’t a superhero, I don’t know what is.”
“I didn’t know I needed saving.”
“We all do, because we are all sinner. See?”
“And that sin stands in the way of us having the perfect, intimate relationship with the God of the universe.”
“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2)
“God loves us very much and wants us to enjoy a relationship with Him forever. When we turn from our sin and place our trust in Christ (who died for our sins and rose from the dead), then we can enjoy a relationship with God for all eternity.”
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
“This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10)
“Wow! What a story!”
“I’d like to know that kind of love.”
“Me too.”
“Then let’s go talk to God.”
“Dear God, thank you for loving us so much that you sent your son, Jesus, to be more than a superhero to me. I now turn from my sin and place my trust in Jesus to be my savior and my Lord. Amen.”
