Do you have regrets?

If someone offered you a second chance, would you take it?

There is something beautiful about the idea of regaining what we thought was lost forever.

Maybe this is why we look forward to the spring season that abounds with renewed life and new beginnings, when leaves and blossoms appear again. The season also brings the celebration of Easter, which reminds us of life after death.

This time of year briefly satisfies our hunger for renewal, then leaves us wanting once more.

The good news is that the true hope behind the Easter celebration is not only a seasonal reminder or renewal, but the ultimate second chance.

The Need to be Reborn

At the very start of human history, man and woman chose to disobey the instructions and purpose that their creator, God, had given them (see Genesis 2-3). This rebellion alienated them from God, the Source of life. Sin and death invaded God’s perfect creation, and has been passed down to every human since. We are now all born dead in sin (Ephesians 2:1).

But God, because He so loved the world, sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us and provide the gift of eternal life (John 3:16). Jesus came in human form so He could lay down His life, taking the punishment that sin deserved, and setting us free from its power over us.

Jesus said: “He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).

He explained this as a spiritual birth—being “born again” (John 3:3) where the old passes away and everything is made new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Restored by God’s Grace

To experience this rebirth, we must turn from the sin that plagues us all as humans and accept the forgiveness and freedom that Jesus Christ has provided, so that “times of refreshing” may come (Acts 3:19). Scripture describes this new life using word pictures such as lying down in green pastures, and God leading you beside still waters and restoring your soul (Psalm 23:2-3).

Like a flower rising from dead ground, you will experience the grace of God enabling you to live in a renewed, eternal relationship with Him.

Resurrected to Live Forever

This promise is possible because Jesus not only defeated the power of sin through His death, but He also defeated the power of death when He rose from the grave. What does this mean? It means that even though our physical life on earth will end one day, all who put their trust in Jesus will be raised again to everlasting life. “Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).

Today, Jesus Christ offers you the opportunity to pass from death to life—to be set free from sin’s power, to restore what has been lost, and to live forever with Him. He’s ready to give you new life—are you ready to receive it?

Jesus said: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).
