The Best Good News

Posted by Don Johnson on

“Do you want the good news, or the bad news first?”

Has anyone ever asked you that question? What was your choice?

Personally, I always like to get the bad news out of the way first and then get the good news. It leaves the conversation on a good note!

As a whole, the Bible presents the bad news first, and then the good news, as it relates to our relationship with God and the hope of eternal life in Heaven with Him. Sometimes, the two are intertwined to remind readers of hope that is extended even in the darkest of situations presented on its pages. However, the Bible’s message only ends on a good note for those who choose to believe and follow what it says.

The bad news is certainly dire enough to make one desire some good news after it. No one is excited about hearing that they are a sinner and deserve to die – and that they can do nothing to save themselves and are under condemnation that will result in eternal punishment in Hell.

Really, there is no worse news that we could receive!

But oh, the good news! No good news is as good of news as when the bad news is so bad.

  • You cannot save yourself; but don’t worry – Jesus Christ came to save you.
  • You deserve to die; but don’t worry – Jesus Christ died in your place.
  • You cannot earn your own salvation; but don’t worry – God provides salvation by His grace. Just put your faith in Jesus Christ!
  • You are condemned and deserve to die; but don’t worry – God offers eternal life through Jesus Christ. Jesus suffered the penalty of sin – death. But He rose from the grave and is now our sole Way to eternal life!

This good news is the best news, not only because it promises you eternal life in Heaven with God. It also promises that one day, there will never be bad news again!

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).

Don’t stop with the bad news. Hear and receive the good news, and end your life on a good note – the best note of all.
