When Jesus walked the earth around 2,000 years ago he spoke about the kingdom of God. You don’t hear much today in churches or seminaries about the central theme of what Jesus preached, which was the kingdom of God. The very purpose God sent Jesus was to preach the kingdom of God. Jesus himself said:

“I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” – Luke 4:43

Knowing what the kingdom of God is will change your life. You need to know what it is and how to tell others about it. Many people think the kingdom of God is the church, or that it’s heaven, or a motivating sentiment in your heart. Too many people settle for vague beliefs about the future and what is to come. Some believe Jesus is coming back but are not sure what will happen after that. The kingdom of God is not a metaphor, or some fuzzy idea or feeling. If the purpose of God sending His own Son was to preach the kingdom of God then I dare say we better know what it is.

The kingdom of God is a real world-ruling government that Jesus Christ is bringing to this earth at his return. It will expand the entire globe. Jesus and his saints will rule all peoples and nations in glory and power on a beautifully transformed earth bringing real peace, real prosperity and real hope for the first time to mankind.

The kingdom of God is a real literal government consisting of a King, territory, laws and subjects. The King is Jesus Christ. The territory will be the entire earth. The law will be based on peace and righteousness. The subjects will be those who in this life have believed on Jesus and followed him as his true disciples. Other subjects may be the nations which remain at the coming of Christ.

Every person who has followed Christ in this age will rule the world to come under his leadership. The saints will judge the world and also judge angels. What an incredible destiny that lies ahead for the followers of Jesus Christ. The reward of the saved is not an eternity of luxury on a cloud with a harp, it is ruling the world to come in glory under Christ. God wants you to look forward to a better world than what you are living in right now. The world that Jesus Christ will establish at his return will be truly amazing beyond comprehension. His saints will rule with him for a thousand years.

The arrival of Jesus Christ at his second coming will be the most magnificent event in all of human history. Immediately before his arrival there will be a great earthquake. The sun will go dark and the moon will appear red. Those who are alive at that time will either be believers who will recognize what is about to happen, or they will be unbelievers who will be struck with such fear that will cause them to seek death. The sky will recede as a scroll and the islands and mountains will be removed from their place. Even the stars of heaven will fall to the earth. Those who are spiritually prepared for this event are told by God to look up and lift up their heads because their redemption is about to take place.

“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” – Luke 21:25-28

The believers will be caught up in the clouds to meet Jesus in the air. Those who are not prepared will discover that the day of God’s wrath has come upon them. For the ungodly, this will be a time of such horror which has never yet come upon the face of the earth.

So what do we do now while we wait for that glorious kingdom to arrive on this earth? Fortunately you don’t have to wait until the return of Christ to discover the purpose of your life in this present age. You can learn how to live a life without strife and confusion and heartache. You can become a citizen of God’s kingdom right now and spend the rest of your days in training and preparation for the coming kingdom of God on earth.

What does it mean to become a citizen right now in God’s kingdom? God commands people everywhere to repent.

“…Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” – Acts 17:30-31

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,” – Acts 3:19

This message is to bring you the good news of the coming kingdom of God and that you can be part of it if you repent of your unbelief and your ungodly ways and diligently seek after Him. You must trust in what His Son Jesus did for you (the Blood of Jesus forgives sins) and you must follow his ways if you want to be his disciple. If you desire to know the ways of God then read your Bible and pray to Him. Start obeying what you read. Entrance into God’s Kingdom can only come through the King. You must go through the King in order to gain access into God’s kingdom. The King of God’s kingdom is Jesus Christ.

Do not be deceived by those who would have you believe that a moment of faith which occurred sometime in your past has you covered for the future; you must not only have a moment of faith, you must continually live by faith (moment by moment). Remain steadfast in your faith until the very end. Do not depart from the faith like many others who have jeopardized eternal life for the things of this present world.

God’s word (the Bible), describes a way of life that brings us the sort of life that God wishes for us. We don’t have to wait for the coming of Christ to experience families without strife, families without confusion, and families without heartache. A life of peace and righteousness can start now. We can let Jesus live his own life in us, to produce the fruits of the Holy Spirit (love and peace) in our lives. To make us blessings to our families and to those around us. To create within us everything God would have us to be.

If you are willing to come under his gracious rule now in this age, you will have the chance to spread that loving and gracious rule throughout the world under the direction of the King of kings and Lord of lords reigning with him as kings and priests, glorious and powerful sons of God throughout all eternity. That day is on our very doorstep.

Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. – 2 Peter 3:13

Look all around you in this present evil age and you will quickly discover that righteousness is not the predominant characteristic among the nations of the earth. But praise God that there is a righteous King on the way to this earth who will rule the entire globe with a rod of iron. The inhabitants of the soon coming kingdom will travel to Mt. Zion (God’s holy mountain) to learn the righteous ways and laws of God.

It is important to mention that new believers who accepted the gospel message throughout the New Testament were water baptized immediately. They didn’t wait weeks or months for the next baptism class; they were baptized immediately.

But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.  –Acts 8:12

So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. – Acts 16:31-33

Becoming a disciple of Jesus is not something to be taken lightly; this is not a game. You are giving your life over to King Jesus to be his servant. I can assure you it will be the best decision you’ve ever made. Yes, it will cost you the pleasures of this life, but remember that no one has seen or heard what God has waiting for those who love Him. Not only will you receive eternal life and dwell with God Himself and the Lord Jesus Christ face to face, but you will receive rewards that are beyond your imagination. The greatest desires of your heart in this age cannot compare with the riches that await you in the kingdom of God.

God is pleading with people to prepare themselves now before it’s too late. The lake of fire (also referred to as the second death) awaits those who ignore the reality of God and His plan of salvation for mankind. Many people today are too busy for God. Don’t let that be you. Slow down for a moment. Think deeply about what you are reading right now. Consider that your soul is at stake. The Devil wants your soul.

Your life can be transformed now. God can turn your life around and put you on the narrow road that leads to eternal life if you call out to Him. His two greatest commandments are for us to love Him with all of our heart and to love other people as we love ourselves. God can give you a heart of compassion to start caring about others who are in need. Jesus set the example for us to serve other people and not forget the poor and the needy. If you have not already accepted the gospel of the kingdom of God through repentance toward God and faith toward Christ I pray that you will today. Who knows if you will be around tomorrow. May God be with you.
