Without a doubt it is one of unthankfulness. In fact, ingratitude always accompanies departure from God. In Romans 1:21 we read that turning away from God’s testimony of Himself in creation, which renders the heathen without excuse, made them “unthankful” as well as vain, foolish and darkened.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOne of the signs of the last days is that men will be “unthankful” (2 Timothy 3:2). Not many would question that this condition exists today. And the rapidity with which this attitude is permeating all levels of society, accompanied with selfish, hateful words and riotous deeds, only manifests how steadily unthankfulness is engulfing this Christless world.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eApostasy is the giving up of truth once nominally held. This is what Christendom is guilty of today. True, there is the “form of godliness,” but “denying the power thereof” (2 Timothy 3:5) which reveals it is merely a degenerating profession of “Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOnly a ministry of Christ can produce an attitude of thankfulness in the heart and cause an expression of true thanksgiving with the lips. The rejection of such ministry only further opens man’s sinful, selfish heart to display itself more fully, just as it is doing today.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHow is it with you, dear reader? Are you marked out by “No thanksgiving” in your heart and life? Or are you truly grateful for the grace and the mercy God has shown to you in His blessed Son?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHave you been cleansed from your sins (1 John 1:7), and like the leper who was cleansed from his leprosy, returned to give the Lord Jesus thanks for His merciful kindness (Luke 17:11-19)? Have you received His marvelous gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23), and do you join in with those who exclaim, “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable Gift” (2 Corinthians 9:15)?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDo you realize that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father above? Are you therefore known as “giving thanks always for all things” (Ephesians 5:20)? If so, you are a product of divine grace, and for this you will be eternally thankful, never ceasing to be amazed that He should have ever loved you (Revelation 5:9-14).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIf, however, “No thanksgiving” characterizes you, be warned that you are in danger of the “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Luke 13:22-28) in hell forever. Then there will be no opportunity nor cause to give thanks. “For in death there is no remembrance of Thee: in the grave who shall give Thee thanks?” (Psalm 6:5). Turn now to God in repentance and by faith “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). By thus accepting Christ as your personal Saviour, you will be able to join in the following ascription of grateful, eternal Thanksgiving:\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e“\u003cstrong\u003eGiving thanks\u003c\/strong\u003e unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son: in whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:12-14).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAs you can see, dear friend, though the terms “no thanksgiving” and “unthankful” may not at first seem too bad, especially since the whole world is characterized by them, they are indeed a serious, solemn warning that we are living in the last days of God’s grace, just preceding His righteous judgments. We gather together with family and friends to enjoy food and companionship and to consider everything for which we are grateful.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eBut giving thanks implies there is someone to be thanked. Who do you show gratitude to when you sit down to dinner?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eThe Bible says that you are to give your thanks to God—\u003ci\u003e“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”\u003c\/i\u003e (Ephesians 5:20).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3 class=\"p1\"\u003eWhy thank God?\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eWhy should you be grateful to God? First, because He created you—\u003ci\u003e“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”\u003c\/i\u003e (Genesis 1:26).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eAlso because God provides you with everything you need to survive, from the air you breathe to the food you eat. The Bible says, \u003ci\u003e“In every thing give thanks”\u003c\/i\u003e (1 Thessalonians 5:18), for \u003ci\u003e“Every good gift … cometh down from the Father …”\u003c\/i\u003e (James 1:17).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eBut above all you should thank God for His sacrifice for you—His Son Jesus, who came into our world to save you. \u003ci\u003e“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”\u003c\/i\u003e (John 3:16).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3 class=\"p1\"\u003eWhy do you have to be saved?\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eWhy must you be saved? And what are you supposed to be saved from?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eIn the beginning God created a perfect world in which people could live. All He required of them was to follow one simple command, but the first man and woman decided they knew better than God, and they disobeyed Him. Each of us has inherited the consequences of this disobedience: an imperfect world and an imperfect human nature which causes us to rebel (sin) against God.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eBecause you are made in God’s image, and \u003ci\u003e“God is a Spirit”\u003c\/i\u003e (John 4:24), you have a spirit that will survive when your physical body dies. But where will your spirit go? To heaven?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003ci\u003e“… your Father … in heaven is perfect”\u003c\/i\u003e (Matthew 5:48), and since God is perfect, He cannot allow your spirit to join Him in heaven because of your sinful nature. Even people we consider “good” are corrupt in God’s eyes: \u003ci\u003e“There is none righteous, no, not one … For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”\u003c\/i\u003e (Romans 3:10, 23).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eFurthermore, there is a penalty for your sin—\u003ci\u003e“the wages of sin is death”\u003c\/i\u003e (Romans 6:23). “Death” means hell, which is a place of eternal separation from God. It is described as full of torment and fire (Matthew 25:41, Mark 9:45, Luke 16:28).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eSo you need to be saved because your sin keeps you from heaven, and you can never do enough good on your own to be acceptable to God. Only one person is perfect and qualified to take your punishment for you, and that is Jesus Christ.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eAs it says in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, \u003ci\u003e“… Christ died for our sins … was buried, and … rose again the third day.”\u003c\/i\u003e Today He lives in heaven, ready to intercede with the Father on your behalf so that one day you may join Him. However, your salvation is not automatic.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3 class=\"p1\"\u003eWhat must happen before you can be saved?\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eFirst, you have to realize that you are a sinner who has not lived your life in a way that pleases God. A quick glance at the Ten Commandments will confirm that everyone has told a lie or taken the Lord’s name in vain or not honored their parents, etc., at some point in their lives. To us this may not seem so bad, but God’s standard is perfection, \u003ci\u003e“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all”\u003c\/i\u003e (James 2:10).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eNext, turning away from those things that offend God, you must turn toward Jesus. You need to accept that Jesus’ death on the cross paid for your sins, ask God for forgiveness, and trust Him to save you.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eIf you do this sincerely, God will transform your rebellious nature: \u003ci\u003e“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new”\u003c\/i\u003e (2 Corinthians 5:17). You will see life through God’s perspective and come to understand His plan for you.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eThis does not mean that you’ll immediately stop sinning. You’ll always fall short of God’s ideal throughout your life on earth and must continually ask for His forgiveness—\u003ci\u003e“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us …”\u003c\/i\u003e (1 John 1:9).
