He had plenty of power and money, so he was able to indulge himself in every pleasure and luxury. He had the best food and wine. He married seven hundred wives and had three hundred mistresses. He had his own personal staff of the country’s best singers. What better example of seeking after “wine, women, and song” could there be! Solomon said that whatever his eyes desired, he kept nothing from them, and he withheld his heart from no pleasure.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHere is a man who lived a life of unhindered license. He just let himself go, and the result of it all was that he declared, “Behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:11). He had everything he ever wanted, but none of it satisfied him. Do you wonder why? Well, for one reason, he found that just like everybody else, he couldn’t escape death. He couldn’t go on indefinitely enjoying the things he possessed. Death stared him in the face. In spite of all his indulgence, there was a sense of frustration. Does this sound familiar to you?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHow few really happy people there are today! Why is it so? I will tell you. Man is made primarily for God and for eternity, not just for a few years down here. That which belongs to eternity cannot find satisfaction in things which are merely temporary. Do you think you would be happy if you could only have a “little bit more”? Look at the people who already have it. What do they want? “A little bit more”! Gain the wisdom of Solomon: observe the failure of even the wealthiest man to get satisfaction from anything in this world.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Bible tells us that our life is not made up of the things we have, or even our relationships. The Lord Jesus Christ says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). It’s obvious that a horse cannot live in the sea: land is his natural element. A bird’s element is the air, and the fish must have water. Even so, man is made for God. Heaven and eternity are your natural elements, and every attempt you make to satisfy yourself apart from them is going to come up short.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIf we are to be satisfied, it must be done spiritually. Whether you have realized it or not, the longing in your heart which you cannot satisfy with earthly things is a yearning for God. There is no life truly worth living apart from Him, simply because life without Him is missing its critical component.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). The Lord Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to offer us true life. He tasted death on the Cross to rescue us from sin and failure, and to obtain pardon for us from our guilty life of sin against Him.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eJesus Christ is alive, and will live in you by the Holy Spirit if you confess your sins to Him and trust Him as your Saviour. You will no longer have an emptiness, a desire, a longing, but you will have life—life to the full. That is the life which God offers to you, and He offers it to you only in the Lord Jesus Christ. These moments of peace and solace, when everything seems right, fulfill our ideas of “the life.” But is it really “the life”?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSatan, “Who deceiveth the whole world” (Revelation 12:9), has always influenced the hearts and minds of men, women and children all around the world. Ease of life and physical comforts rob our minds of spiritual realities, and cause us to think “this is the life,” when God says we are actually “dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is everyone’s goal to have a “better life.” We look for easier work, more security, more comforts and more ways to “enjoy life.” However, this idea of seeking a “better life” without God is futile and potentially disastrous. God has said, “For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (James 4:14). The promise of a “better life” is the bait used by Satan to lure people into a life of complacency and ease.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGod in His goodness has revealed what true life is. His Word clearly states “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” (John 3:36), and “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 John 5:12). Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eReader, if you do not have this true life, the life that is obtained through faith in Christ Jesus, you have no true life at all. No matter what possessions or comforts you may enjoy now, when it comes right down to it, you are dead—spiritually dead. You are doomed to spend an eternity apart from God in the lake of fire. These are the facts concerning your condition. But God also sets forth the remedy, “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHow do you get this everlasting life? Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24). “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDear reader, the choice is yours. Which will it be? Will it be the empty promises for “the life” as men and Satan promise but are unable to fulfill? Or will it be the sure promises of God who cannot lie (Titus 1:2)? The invitation and promise from Jesus is, “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (John 14:6).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTrue life, abundant life, is found alone in Christ Jesus, God’s Son. Will you trust Him as your Saviour? To reject Him is to seal your doom for eternity. However, due to our sinful nature we cannot relate to God on our own terms. There is a barrier between God and man. The Bible, which is the word of God, tells us that man is cut off from any purposeful relationship with God:\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e“But your iniquities have separated you from your God: your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe punishment for man’s sinful nature is death, which includes a spiritual separation from God in this present life.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGod will also punish those who do not ask for and receive His forgiveness in this life.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e“… The lake of fire is the second death. We cannot receive His forgiveness by our good deeds, by our kindness to others, neither by our religious acts. We can only be saved by asking Jesus Christ to forgive us and reconnect us with God, our father. Then, if you are really in earnest, He will come in and will marvelously change your whole life. We won’t be satisfied until the Savior washes our sin-guilt away. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSome of us have tried to satisfy our thirst for meaning and purpose through another human being, possessions or pleasure, only to find that our souls are still parched. In the Bible God says, “They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.”\u003csup\u003e2\u003c\/sup\u003e We’re all ruined by our sinfulness, and we try to fix ourselves through our own efforts, but our lives are still like a desert. “Your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.”\u003csup\u003e3\u003c\/sup\u003e We won’t be satisfied until we experience the “water of life” that only God can give.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHere is some good news: no matter what you’ve done, you can experience the transformation that comes from God alone. Are you ready to soak your dry heart in God’s downpour?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn the Bible, King David, after committing sexual sin and then murder, cried out in confession to God, “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! … Purge me… and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”\u003csup\u003e4\u003c\/sup\u003e For us, the Bible is very clear that only through the death of Christ on the cross can our sins be forgiven. When Christ died, He was punished for our sins and paid the price for all that we’ve done wrong: “For our sake [God] made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”\u003csup\u003e5\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHow much longer are you going to go through life dirty and guilty? Jesus is extending the cleansing of forgiveness to you, but you must receive the Savior in order for your sin-debt to be washed away. You won’t be satisfied until the Savior washes away the penalty of your sins.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOne day Jesus sat down by a well and met an immoral woman whose heart was dirty and foul. Because of bitter disappointments, wrong choices, shattered dreams, broken promises, and endless shame, her soul was parched, her thirst unquenchable. But Jesus offered to satisfy her desperate spiritual thirst, offering the “living water” of forgiveness.\u003csup\u003e6\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCleansing, forgiveness, and unconditional love are available to all. Jesus satisfies our souls by purifying what is putrid—flushing away our fears and dislodging our disappointments. Step up to the fountain; let Christ be the water of your soul.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHis living water is free for the taking, regardless of who you are or what you’ve done. But water only satisfies your thirst if you drink it. It only cleanses when you apply it. And the Savior won’t save you from all your sins unless you receive Him. “To all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”\u003csup\u003e7\u003c\/sup\u003e You won’t be satisfied until the Savior washes your sin-debt away and transforms you with his spiritual “water of life.”\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWill you admit that you are unacceptable to God without Christ? According to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report from May 2, 2013, suicide has increased 23% in all four major regions of the United States. The statistic for those ages 35 to 64 has increased 28%. Where can a thirsty soul find refreshment, hope, relief, and fulfillment?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eJesus tells us in John 4:14, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMaybe you are reading this and think, “I have tried religion.” True, but have you tried Jesus? Water in a pond is going to taste much different than that special water from a fresh vein deep within the earth. We are invited to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalms 34:8). Our physical bodies become thirsty as our reserve of water is exhausted. Our body can’t create a source of water to continue its functions, yet our body was created with a need for water. We are dependent upon other sources to provide this most basic life-sustaining need. Our soul was also created with a need—one that we cannot provide for ourselves. Our souls were created with the need to have a relationship with God. Without that relationship, an unquenchable thirst remains.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhat prevents us from quenching this thirst? It is our sin. The Bible says, “The soul that sinneth, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20). Sin is \u003ci\u003eanything that offends God\u003c\/i\u003e. He has given us His Ten Commandments, or requirements. They include things like no lying, no stealing, and no lustful thoughts. To make matters worse, we are also informed that “whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10). Yes, even if we could keep nine of the commandments perfectly, yet break one, we would be guilty of every one! And every one of us is guilty before a Holy God who sees every action, knows every secret thought, and hears every word.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBut there is good news—God loves you! The Bible says, “For the wages [payment] of sin is death; but the \u003ci\u003egift of God\u003c\/i\u003e is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). This is where Jesus comes in. Because of our sin, we could never approach God, so God the Son came to us! He, God in human flesh, lived a sinless perfect life to redeem us from the judgment of God. Having lived a perfect life \u003ci\u003ein our place\u003c\/i\u003e, He then \u003ci\u003etook our place\u003c\/i\u003e and bore God’s judgment for us.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDo you thirst for forgiveness in your soul? Do you believe God loves you and paid your judgment? Romans 5:8 tells us that “God commendeth [shows] His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” If you are honest, you know that you have sinned. You know that you deserve the judgment Jesus took. Will you simply admit that to Him? Will you ask Him to give you the water of life that He offers?\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eJohn 3:16 tells us that “God so loved the world that He Gave His only begotten Son [Jesus], that whosoever [insert your name] believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Death without Christ leads to hell—a place of unquenchable thirst. Life with Christ is an eternal home in heaven, where the river of life flows from His throne (Revelation 22:1). We must leave room for human error and God’s plan. In the Bible, when King Nebuchadnezzar threatened to throw the three Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace for not worshipping his golden image; they responded by saying that their God would deliver them. But if their God chose not to deliver them they still would not worship the idol (Daniel 3:13-18). Their love for God was not determined by God meeting their expectations. They were determined to live by God’s expectations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat is the consequence of  disappointment? Disappointment weakens our faith. We often base our faith on specific actions and miracles God does on our behalf. Our faith must be based on the character of God and the word of God. God is all knowing and will work everything out for our good, even things we do not understand.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat is the remedy for disappointment? When we find ourselves disheartened we must  reflect on all God has done. Every day is  bursting with promise and reasons to be  thankful. In addition to being powerful and “the only true God,”\u003csup\u003e4\u003c\/sup\u003e He is holy and hates sin.\u003csup\u003e5\u003c\/sup\u003e He knows everything we do, say, or think.\u003csup\u003e6 \u003c\/sup\u003eBecause He is holy, He must judge all sin.\u003csup\u003e7\u003c\/sup\u003e But He also loves the world and sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins and to rise again so that all who believe on Him might be saved from judgment and have everlasting life.\u003csup\u003e8\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAccording to the Bible, we are not free to find any “Higher Power” that happens to suit us. The Lord Jesus Himself said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”\u003csup\u003e9\u003c\/sup\u003e “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”\u003csup\u003e10\u003c\/sup\u003e There is only one true God, and the only way we can come to God is through faith—believing in His Son, Jesus Christ as personal Saviour.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWe also learn about ourselves in the Bible. We are all sinners.\u003csup\u003e11\u003c\/sup\u003e We have had evil thoughts\u003csup\u003e12\u003c\/sup\u003e and foolish thoughts, which God says are sin.\u003csup\u003e13\u003c\/sup\u003e We have not loved God with all our heart, soul, and mind, or our neighbor as ourselves as God has commanded.\u003csup\u003e14\u003c\/sup\u003e We have often failed to do what we knew was right, which is sin\u003csup\u003e15\u003c\/sup\u003e and we have often done things we knew were wrong. It is because we have all sinned that every one of us must turn to the Lord Jesus Christ—the only Saviour from sin—in order to escape God’s wrath and judgment.\u003csup\u003e16\u003c\/sup\u003e It is not enough to “turn over a new leaf” or overcome bad habits. Only the blood of Christ has \u003cstrong\u003epower\u003c\/strong\u003e to take away our sin and make us clean in God’s sight.\u003csup\u003e17\u003c\/sup\u003e “We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.”\u003csup\u003e18\u003c\/sup\u003e “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.”\u003csup\u003e19\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWon’t you confess to God that you are a sinner and trust in Jesus Christ as your only Lord and Saviour today?\u003c\/strong\u003e He is the only One who can heal your \u003ci\u003ereal\u003c\/i\u003e problem, which is not simply your desire for alcohol, drugs, immoral sex, gambling or other things, but your being a hell-bound sinner who has deeply offended the Holy God. Jesus was proven to be the Son of God—true God Himself—because of the perfect, sinless life He lived, by the miracles He performed, and because He rose from the dead after His crucifixion.\u003csup\u003e3\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhat else do we learn about God from the Bible? In addition to being powerful and “the only true God,”\u003csup\u003e4\u003c\/sup\u003e He is holy and hates sin.\u003csup\u003e5\u003c\/sup\u003e He knows everything we do, say, or think.\u003csup\u003e6 \u003c\/sup\u003eBecause He is holy, He must judge all sin.\u003csup\u003e7\u003c\/sup\u003e But He also loves the world and sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins and to rise again so that all who believe on Him might be saved from judgment and have everlasting life.\u003csup\u003e8\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAccording to the Bible, we are not free to find any “Higher Power” that happens to suit us. The Lord Jesus Himself said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”\u003csup\u003e9\u003c\/sup\u003e “He who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”\u003csup\u003e10\u003c\/sup\u003e There is only one true God, and the only way we can come to God is through faith—believing in His Son, Jesus Christ as personal Savior.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWe also learn about ourselves in the Bible. We are all sinners.\u003csup\u003e11\u003c\/sup\u003e We have had evil thoughts\u003csup\u003e12\u003c\/sup\u003e and foolish thoughts, which God says are sin.\u003csup\u003e13\u003c\/sup\u003e We have not loved God with all our heart, soul, and mind, or our neighbor as ourselves as God has commanded.\u003csup\u003e14\u003c\/sup\u003e We have often failed to do what we knew was right, which is sin\u003csup\u003e15\u003c\/sup\u003e and we have often done things we knew were wrong. It is because we have all sinned that every one of us must turn to the Lord Jesus Christ—the only Savior from sin—in order to escape God’s wrath and judgment.\u003csup\u003e16\u003c\/sup\u003e It is not enough to “turn over a new leaf” or overcome bad habits. Only the blood of Christ has \u003cstrong\u003epower\u003c\/strong\u003e to take away our sin and make us clean in God’s sight.\u003csup\u003e17\u003c\/sup\u003e “We are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags.”\u003csup\u003e18\u003c\/sup\u003e “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.”\u003csup\u003e19\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWon’t you confess to God that you are a sinner and trust in Jesus Christ as your only Lord and Savior today?\u003c\/strong\u003e He is the only One who can heal your \u003ci\u003ereal\u003c\/i\u003e problem, which is not simply your desire for alcohol, drugs, immoral sex, gambling or other things, but your being a hell-bound sinner who has deeply offended the Holy God.
