Have you ever been to Calvary?

When they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified Him. 1

The question is not, “Have you ever been to the Holy Land?” Multitudes have traveled to the traditional site of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, but I wonder how many have understood its significance. I invite you to take in the wonders of Calvary as you keep reading.

Calvary is where a sinful heart meets a merciful God.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us. 2

Calvary is where the heavy burden of sin drops off the guilty one’s back, providing eternal peace and rest.

Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 3

Calvary is where the helpless and hopeless go to find great help and much hope.

When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 4

Calvary is where man offers God nothing and God gives man everything.

The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 5

Calvary is where Jesus finished the work required for our salvation, and where we stop trying to appease God with our works.

Jesus … said, It is finished. 6

By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. 7

The guilty come to Calvary and they go away forgiven and freely justified.

Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. 8

The filthy come to Calvary and they go away fully cleansed.

The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. 9

The poor come to Calvary and they go away with eternal riches.

In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. 10

The lost come to Calvary and they go away saved and eternally secure.

The Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. 11

Sinners come to Calvary and they go away as saints, set apart for God’s service.

By one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 12

Dear friend, now that you know what Calvary is all about, let me ask again—have you ever truly been there? It is a humbling thing to come in repentance to the foot of the cross, confessing that Jesus laid down His life and endured the wrath of God because of your sins. If you have never experienced the blessings of Calvary by putting your faith in Jesus Christ, there is still room at the cross for you!

God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 13

If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 14

The kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 15
