Sometimes, our journey in this life is difficult. The road is often marked with suffering, disappointment, and confusion. Maybe you know what it’s like to get lost on this winding highway.
But the reason we often have such difficulty is because we’re not meant to go on this journey alone, or to try to find our own way to happiness (ultimately finding that all our planned routes keep meeting with frustrating roadblocks).
In all seasons, God desires to make your way full of joy, peace, and hope for the future. He wants to place you on the path that leads to everlasting life. He wants to walk with You and show you the way at every crossroads.
“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21).
He even goes so far as to make the journey as clear and unhindered as possible.
“I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19).
To begin traveling this new road with God, we need to take a different direction than we’ve been going. We need to realize that the way we’ve been going, and the way we’ve been living, is only leading us to more pain and heartache.
Going our own way and ignoring God, who created us, is called “sin”. And we’re all born with it as part of our very nature.
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)
We’re basically slaves to it and often don’t even realize it. But as it carries us away from the good path, before we know it, it will lead us only to a hopeless death, separated from God for eternity.
“The wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23a).
You understand that something needs to change. That you need to turn around. But how?
“…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23b).
Thankfully, your hope to get on a better path is not dependent on you trying to figure it all out. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to the world, for the very purpose of leading us to Him. In His love, He meets us where we are – lost and helpless – and does what only He can do: sets us free from the power of sin. Sin has to die to lose its power. So, as both fully divine and fully human (a perfect one), Jesus Christ took our sin upon Himself and laid down His life. He put sin to death, so that we would not have to die in our sin.
“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
The Bible tells us that just as Jesus Christ began this mission on the earth, John the Baptist called people to repent of their sin and to be ready to accept the rescue that Jesus was going to offer them:
“Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God” (Luke 3:4-6).
Jesus Christ made it very clear that He was the only one who could lead us to God.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
Jesus not only died in our place for sin, He also rose from the dead to show that He had victory over the power of sin and death, and that through Him is the hope of eternal life!
For all who put their faith and trust in Him, He has promised to prepare a place with Him, and that one day He would come again to take them there (John 14:3).
When you trust in Jesus Christ for rescue from sin and to place you on the right path, He will give you His Holy Spirit to dwell in You and lead you by His guidance, strength, and hope for the journey and destination ahead.
Getting on this new road is not complicated:
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
No matter what season of life you’re in, it’s never too late to turn around and get on the right road. Will you trust in Jesus Christ today and follow Him to everlasting life?
