Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so…
“Jesus Loves Me” is one of the most well-known Christian songs in existence. The message is so straightforward and understandable that it’s often a song taught to little children. Yet the message is also one of the most powerful we could ever hear, no matter our age.
In many ways, the word “love” has been watered-down and is often tied to changing and passive feelings or emotions. For example, we say that one can just as easily “fall out of love” as he or she can “fall in love”. To apply such a definition to the “love” that Jesus Christ has for us could not be further from the truth.
Consider the love of Jesus. It is the greatest love of all, because He laid down His very life for us. The Bible tells us that He was fully God and fully man. Coming to earth, He became the perfect substitute for us, taking our sin upon Himself and being put to death for the punishment that sin deserved. But as fully God, He also had power over death; three days later He rose from the grave. Now, because He has overcome the power of sin and death, He is the way through which we, too, can overcome. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He provides forgiveness of sin and sends His Spirit to live within us (1 Corinthians 6:19). He makes us righteous and acceptable to God.
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
This wonderful offer was not given to us when we were deserving of it. In fact, in our sinful human nature we could never do anything to make ourselves worthy of such love.
“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:6-8).
But as already mentioned, that love did not end with His death. His death made us right with God by taking the punishment we deserved for sin. But because He rose from the dead, His life means that now, through Him, we can once again be in God’s presence for all of eternity.
“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life” (Romans 5:10).
And the only requirement is to believe in and receive Jesus Christ.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
“As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
There is no clearer message, and there is no more powerful one than “Jesus loves you”. Will you believe and receive Him, and experience the greatest relationship you will ever have – one built on love that is everlasting, love that will give you peace with God and eternal life in Heaven with Him? There is no greater love than that.
